into Light, and how that Journey affects everyone around her.
Although set
within the framework of 19th Century England and America, the issues
dealt with in The Lady

"Raven is a Symbol for Healing and Change."
Excerpts from "The Lady
of Ravenwood"…
Note:
The following excerpts have been chosen so that you can get a sense
of the author's writing style, without giving away any secrets from the novel.
England, 1816...
For so long, it
seemed Sarah had been drifting on a shoreless sea, aimlessly searching; with no
hope,
no anchor, no place to call home. Until the letter arrived stating that
she, as the only surviving relation, had inherited her ancestral estate
and all the monies to run it, there had been no safe place to run, no safe place
to hide. In Ravenwood, she would have that place now.
Hesitantly, she removed her long black gloves and placed them on
the adjacent rosewood cabinet. Then she gently touched her face, feeling the
scars that lingered there; scars so old that she had no memory of whence they
came or what had caused them. But they had blighted her face, her happiness, her
life, until she was forced to hide behind the veil in order to survive in the
world. She hid—like a coward—behind the widow’s weeds, though she was no more a
widow than she had ever been a bride...

Out of her room on the second story, down the hall, up the
stairs she went. Up one flight and then another. The air was chilled and all was
dark save the small burning light she held close. The flame on that blazing wick
jumped wildly, as if being tossed by an unseen hand, casting ominous shadows on
the ceiling and walls. Like dancing phantoms, the shadows surrounded her as she
roamed the mansion in the darkest hours of night. As Sarah progressed on her
journey, she felt increasingly hemmed in by the darkness, almost suffocating
from its closeness. She found herself gasping for breath, for she felt as though
she were moving through a closed, dark tomb.
But she walked on
in a preternatural, determined trance. The previous night without sleep had
dulled her senses. And the day’s events had wrung every bit of contentment from
her frazzled nerves, every sense of safety from the very marrow of her bones; so
that now all she yearned for, longed for, craved was peace and sleep—a deep,
deep sleep. Whatever stood in the way of attaining these two valued treasures
must be thwarted as quickly as possible.
...There it was again—’twas a whisper,
a moan—so slight, so faint, it was hardly a sound at all. But she had heard it.
Someone was here. With misgivings, Sarah summoned her courage and called
out:
“Who’s there? Is someone there?”
No answer.
“I know someone is here. I
heard you weeping before.” Pause. “Are you hurt?”

“There are different levels of love,” she replied. “A sense of goodwill
toward all things is important. For love of a deeper nature, one must use
discernment; one must be aware. Even Jesus, in his vast wisdom, admonished,
“Do not cast your pearls among the swine!”
"There are many who, in the darkness of
their slumber, will fear and abuse the Light. Love is Light—a pearl beyond
price. Use discernment, Sarah. Give to those who will value the pearl. For the
rest: keep them in your prayers. You can do nothing more for them, and they will
only drag you down if you try.”
